Evaluation of Higher Education in ICT and Computer Science
In accordance with the Education Evaluation Plan (2024–2027), an evaluation of higher education in ICT and computer science will be carried out in 2026–2027. The fields of ICT and computer science are undergoing continuous change due to rapid technological development. Common topics in the study field include the transformation of information work, international competition and, for example, the challenges brought by cyber competence and artificial intelligence. This evaluation will produce information on the kinds of competences national education provides as well as the capacity of education programmes to respond to changes in the operational environment and to the needs of working life is. Both universities of applied sciences and universities will participate in the evaluation of the study field.
At its meeting on 19 March 2026, the Higher Education Evaluation Committee appointed the following persons to the planning and evaluation group for the evaluation:
- Vice Rector, Professor Tapio Salakoski, University of Turku (Chair)
- Head of Education Mervi Heikkinen, Karelia University of Applied Sciences
- Senior Specialist Jaakko Kurhila, University of Helsinki
- Director of ICT and Digitalisation Juha-Pekka Leskinen, CSC – IT Center for Science
- Director of Competence Area Jarmo Mikkola, Oulu University of Applied Sciences
- Director Liisa Postareff, Häme University of Applied Sciences
- Student Olivia Takkinen, Tampere University.
According to the preliminary schedule, the project plan will be prepared in spring 2026, the data will be collected in autumn 2026, and the data will be analysed and the report written in spring 2027.
