Learning outcomes evaluations in history and social studies, grade 9
The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) is conducting a learning outcomes evaluation in history and social studies for ninth-grade students. The project began in spring 2024, and the results will be published in early 2027.
Students’ knowledge in history and social studies is measured at the end of grade nine, based on objectives defined in the National core curricula for basic education.
The assignments are based on the objectives defined in the National core curricula. Experienced teachers and specialists participate in drawing up the tasks.
Sample schools and education providers will receive feedback on their results in relation to the national average. A report and summaries of the key findings will be prepared to meet the needs of various stakeholders and beneficiaries.
The evaluation answers the following questions:
- How well have the objectives of the National core curriculum been achieved in the subjects of history and social studies?
- What background factors related to the student, teaching, school, and region are linked to the level of competence and differences in learning outcomes?
